About us:

Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services of Florida, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that was established in 1983 to meet the needs of the deaf and hard of hearing. We offer a wide range of services and programs for these individuals and their families from our base in WEST PASCO and additional satellite locations.

Our Mission:

To provide the highest quality services and programs to promote empowerment, equal access, education, independence, and integrity to the deaf, hard of hearing, and speech impaired.

Our Services:

COMMUNITY EDUCATIONS & AWARENESS – Sensitivity and awareness training is available to local groups and organizations to help them better serve the deaf and hard of hearing. Our training includes many topics including hurricane preparedness, Medicare insurance, communication strategies, and deaf culture. We will announce events on our webpage and Facebook.

SUPPORTED/EMPLOYMENT SERVICES – We assist deaf and hard-of-hearing clients in obtaining employment. This also involves the preparation and training for employment search. THis service is offered through a contract with Vocational Rehabilitation and local grants.

SIGNING FOR EVERDAY LIVING (SFEL) – Classes are designed for individuals who are experiencing hearing loss along with their family, friends, and coworkers. The class teaches various categories of signs to facilitate their loss by using signs to supplement the spoken word. Our goal is to decrease the sense of isolation that accompanies hearing loss. Our aspects of dealing with hearing loss are also taught. The class is FREE thanks to the grant from United Way of Pasco County. Classes are held at many locations and businesses in our county.

COMMUNICATION ACCESS ASSISTANCE & ADVOCACY – Our programs help deaf and hard-of-hearing clients manage their day-to-day lives when communication is an issue. We advocate ensuring their rights and accommodations are met through the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

TELEPHONE DISTRIBUTION (FTRI) – DHHSFL is one of the regional distribution centers of (FTRI) Florida Telecommunications Relay, Inc. Specialized FTRI equipment includes amplified telephones, Captioned telephones, voice carry-over telephones, audible and visual ring signals, and more. This equipment is FREE to Florida residents who qualify. We also provided presentations on 711 Relay, Text-to-911, and videophone and how it benefits the deaf and hard of hearing. If you have any questions regarding the amplified telephone, call Yasmin Colon at 727.853.1010.

To make this a success, we are relying on the generosity and support of donors like you. Your contribution, no matter the amount, will directly help people with hearing loss in our community.
