Becoming a Volunteer in the Deaf & Hard of Hearing Services of Florida, Inc. (DHHSFL)

DHHSFL uses volunteers in many capacities to reduce the administrative cost of providing services. Volunteer action is a key part of DHHSFL’s mission, and your service can make a huge impact. You may choose to volunteer in one or more of these areas or in other capacities as supervised by one of our DHHSFL staff on the sites you select:

Fundraising – Is not about collecting money; it also entails effectively communicating why the donation is needed. We are raising funds for our events, including our yearly Wine Tasting & Silent Auction.

Clerical / Admin – If you are task-oriented, enjoy customer service, and like working in a friendly office environment, then volunteering in a clerical capacity may be a good fit. You would assist with operational responsibilities in the office. The duties are answering phones, checking emails, copying and scanning documents, sending out letters, and light cleaning.

Event Helper – Help set up tables and chairs, guide Vendors, clean up, and assist with communication. The events for which we need volunteers are the Wine Tasting, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

Web Designer – Have an understanding of how to use the WordPress framework. Help with new and redesigned website projects. Ability to handle the production and editing of graphics, animation, photographs, and video sources is desired.

FTRI Phone Program – Helping Yasmin Colon at any events, sometimes the events can be held on Saturday.

Special Projects – Any projects that we need help with, such as Wine Tasting, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.

Your school counselor will give you the form for allowing the DHHSFL staff to sign the paperwork to confirm your volunteer hours and dates. We don’t want to lose you along the way! Sign up to volunteer today! Also, we would like for you to fill out the Volunteer’s Agreement & Release from Liability form as required.

Attendence:

Once you are placed in a volunteer position, you become an important part of the DHHSFL team. Please arrive on time at DHHSFL. If you do need to be called out during your scheduled time, contact DHHSFL staff so that other arrangements can be made for the work you were scheduled to do.  DHHSFL staff will give you their contact number. If you wish to cease being a DHHSFL volunteer at any time, please notify Carrie Esposito so that she can process your departure appropriately.

A Final Word:

People volunteer for a variety of reasons. Some are seeking skill or job development – the potential to access certain training. Some are seeking social connection – the opportunity to become a part of a community and make new friends. Some are seeking influence – the chance to make a difference in an area of interest or concern. And some are seeking to affirm the value of their life experiences – what they’ve learned,  what they can share – through giving back to others around them.

Whatever the reason you’ve chosen to volunteer, we’re grateful that you’ve chosen to be a part of our community. We look forward to tapping the talents and energy you bring to DHHSFL.

Please enjoy your time with us – and let us know what we can do to ensure that you are… confident, comfortable, and much, much more than content during every moment in DHHSFL.
